Leading Contractors Awarded for Unique Deck Builds using AZEK® and TimberTech® Materials

SKOKIE, IL — The recent North American Deck and Railing Association (NADRA) 2017 Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee brought together industry experts in celebration of the most inspiring deck builds from the past year. Four of the award-winning decks were made using AZEK® and TimberTech® decking from AZEK Building Products.

With a beautifully-designed, two tone TimberTech deck, Fresh Decks from Sasketchewan won first place for Alternative Deck $25,000-$50,000. Completed from TimberTech’s Terrain Collection® in Rustic Elm, the unique deck features an inlayed mural with two evergreen trees, rolling hills, waves and a sun, framed by a box, pergola.

Lakesville, Minnesota-based Infinite Decks won two awards for Alternative Deck up to $25,000. Each project featured curved decking from AZEK, using colors from all three collections.  One showcased Island Oak from AZEK’s Harvest Collection®. It included Hazelwood accents, from AZEK’s Arbor Collection®, for the picture frame and inlay. The other project featured AZEK in Dark Hickory from the Vintage Collection®.

“For these award-winning decks, we used various AZEK products to bring indoor living to the outdoors,” said Mark King, founder of Infinite Decks. “We’ve been working with the AZEK product for as long as we can remember. We do a lot of curved decks and we’re able to heat it up and manipulate it. With varying temperatures here, from 100 degrees in the summer to -20 in the winter, I want to use a product that I know can withstand the elements – and I know AZEK will hold up.”

AZEK also received a Manufacturer Award for a TimberTech Pecan deck with Mocha accent from the Legacy Collection®.  The project was built by Archadeck of Nova Scotia and included a multi-level composite deck with Evolutions Rail® Contemporary in Traditional Walnut and Riser Lights.

“We’re thrilled that several of the winning decks at this year’s NADRA Awards featured AZEK Building Products,” said Patrick Barnds, General Manager of Decking and Railing at AZEK Building Products. “TimberTech and AZEK are engineered to combine high performance with low-maintenance so families can enjoy the beauty of their decks without worrying about upkeep. The winning decks this year are next-level in terms of design and we really appreciate the partnerships we have with contractors like Infinite Decks, Fresh Decks and Archadeck.”

AZEK® Building Products Unveils App Update Designed to Bring Dream Decks to Life

Enhanced Features Build on the Success of the AZEK Deck Designer and Previous Brand Apps

SKOKIE, IL— For more than 30 years, AZEK® Building Products has been an innovative leader in designing and providing premium decking products. And now, the brand is bringing the latest in deck design technology directly to contractors and consumers with a new app update.

AZEK’s updated app combines its signature user-friendly experience with the success of its recently launched Deck Designer. Updated to give customers the opportunity to bring their dream outdoor living spaces to life, the new app makes it easy to lay out unique, 3D designs using 140-plus product options that include premium AZEK and TimberTech decking, railing, lighting and accessories. When those custom designs are complete, consumers can then download a list of materials that they’ll need during the construction process. The app also helps locate local contractors and dealers.

“The AZEK app has been a huge hit since its debut on iOS in 2014. That’s why we’re excited to incorporate many of its features into this new update to make it easier for people to create and save deck designs on the go,” said Julia Fitzgerald, CMO of AZEK Building Products. “Contractors and customers alike love seeing how they can visualize their AZEK Deck and Rail design in the backyard, and the Augmented Reality mode features new markerless technology that’s available in both life-size and dollhouse versions.”

AZEK’s updated app adds a long list of new features and benefits, including a mirrored experience of the web Deck Designer that allows consumers to create virtual deck designs on the AZEK website and a Snapshot Mode that allows consumers to upload or snap a photo of their own outdoor space before attaching their virtual deck to the image. The app also comes with template decks to help customers get their designs started, as well as customized collections of user saved deck designs.

“Since the launch of our Deck Designer in January, we have received consistent feedback that people love visualizing their dream decks before investing in them. There are even templates that help guide creativity for homeowners who need a little inspiration.” Fitzgerald said. “Ultimately, bringing AZEK’s innovative programs together in this update will make virtually designing and saving dream deck images easier than ever before.”

AZEK® Encourages Awareness for Deck Safety Month®

SKOKIE, IL—AZEK® Building Products, a leader in the development of premium composite decking, is raising awareness alongside the North American Decking and Railing Association (NADRA) this May for Deck Safety Month®. As summer approaches and people begin to enjoy their outdoor living spaces, it is the ideal time to address and fix any poorly maintained or unsafe decking structures.

“Decks are exposed to sun, rain, snow and extreme temperature changes throughout the seasons and the years,” said Julia Fitzgerald, chief marketing officer of AZEK Building Products. “May is a great time to remind everyone to inspect decks for safe outdoor entertaining.  Safety is our number one priority so our decking is scientifically engineered to stand up to the elements and remain sturdy, reliable, and splinter free for years. Likewise, our railing is not only beautiful, it’s low-maintenance as it is sturdy.”

Here are the top tips to ensure a safe deck:

  • Identify Instability – There should be no sagging, swaying or movement of the deck boards, railings or stairs, and the board attaching the deck to the house should be securely in place.
  • Inspect Railings – The IRC requires railings to be at least 36’’ in height, measured from the deck surface to the top of the rail. Also look for loose balusters or post caps which could present a hazard.
  • Get up to Code – Check that the deck, electrical outlets and appliances are up to code, and that no electrical cords present a tripping or fire hazard. Inspect grills, fire pits and heaters at the start of the season.
  • Examine Boards and Fasteners – Check for splitting, rotting or decay. Look for rust on nails, screws and fasteners; a corroded fastener can cause deterioration in surrounding materials.

“Homeowners who have an AZEK® or TimberTech® deck don’t have to worry about many of the traditional performance issues wood decks present,” said Fitzgerald. “Our products are protected with advanced polymer materials which make them resistant to mold, mildew and moisture damage.  Also, our railing collections are certified to meet the International Building Code, and International Residential Code for load bearing and other universal safety considerations.  Wood just can’t compete when it comes to long lasting safety and durability.”

AZEK® Building Products Gives Back to National Forest Foundation to Honor Earth Day

A Leader in Premium Building Products Launches Campaign with Commitment to Sustainable Practices

SKOKIE, IL— Discovering earth-friendly finds makes consumers feel good about a purchase, and sometimes those products are in the most surprising places. With Earth Day approaching on April 22, AZEK® Building Products, a leading provider of premium decking, railing, trim, moulding, porch and pavers, is celebrating its year-round commitment to sustainability by supporting the National Forest Foundation.  The goal – collect $5,000 to plant 5,000 trees.

During the month of April, AZEK Building Products will donate one dollar for every Facebook share it receives on special Earth Day posts. The objective is to reach up to 5,000 shares, or the equivalent of a $5,000 donation to the National Forest Foundation.

“We’re proud to practice sustainable methods in the making of our premium building products.  We feel that supporting the National Forest Foundation in honor of Earth Day is the perfect way to give back to an organization we believe in,” said Julia Fitzgerald, CMO of AZEK Building Products. “Most people don’t realize that our engineered decking is a sustainable alternative to wood decks and saves more than 100,000 trees per year[1].”

This campaign reinforces AZEK Building Products commitment to reducing its carbon footprint through clean manufacturing. AZEK Building Products reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills every year, ships its products by rail to save thousands of gallons of fuel annually, and saves hundreds of gallons of water each day during manufacturing, with a uniquely designed, closed-loop water filtration system. Also, AZEK Building Products’ TimberTech® decks are made from up to 73 percent recycled material.

“Not only are our products made with recycled materials, they are also built to last,” Fitzgerald said. “On average, wood decks need to be replaced every 10 to 15 years2.  Our AZEK and TimberTech decking collections come with 30-year fade and stain warranties. They are engineered for durability, and provide consumers with top quality materials that will far outlast wood.”
