NADRA’s 2016 Southeast Regional Golf Tournament Brings Industry Pros Together

What a turnout! NADRA had a successful golf tournament on Monday, May 9th at the Brookfield Country Club in Roswell, Georgia. NADRA members showed their support despite the busy time of year. It was quite the competitive event!

The festivities began with handing out custom NADRA coolers to all attendees and a shot gun start at 11am.

Teams took to the greens to play their best and stopped to see what sponsors had put together at each hole.
NADRA National Board Member, Heath Bowman said, “This year’s NADRA golf tournament brought a lot of familiar faces together for a beautiful day to connect and have a good time together. Even more exciting was seeing a handful of new faces, which were a great reminder why we do this: building our community, sharing resources, and ultimately succeeding in business together.”

NEW LONDON, N.C., (September 15, 2015) – Architects, builders, and homeowners: Fiberon® now offers two outstanding wood-alternative decking options for use in Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) areas. Fiberon ProTect Advantage® FR capped wood-plastic composite (WPC) decking and Fiberon Paramount PVC Decking meet strict California fire codes, as well as offer exceptional aesthetics and industry-leading warranties. NADRA’s 2015 Atlanta Golf Outing Brings Over 60 Industry Pros Together

From James Gunning, NADRA Atlanta Chapter President:

I am trilled to recap on Atlanta’s first NADRA golf outing that we had on Monday, June 15th at the Brookfield Country Club in Roswell Georgia. NADRA members showed their support despite the brutal 95-degree temperatures with 100% humidity, on a Monday during the busiest time of year…we still Had 60+ golfers attend what turned out to be a pretty competitive golfing journey.

Festivities began with a shot gun start at 1:00 in the afternoon (peak heat) – so what is the solution to proper hydration supply for the finest NADRA golfers?  20 cases of water and Powerade backed up with plenty of beer and booze of course! I want to give thanks our beverage cart sponsors PMC and Wolmanized Outdoor Wood, as well as all of our official golf outing sponsors:

  • Wolmanized Outdoor Wood
  • PMC Building Supply
  • Boise Cascade
  • Stock Building Supply
  • Screw Products, Inc.
  • Rainaway
  • FastenMaster
  • Trex
  • Fiberon
  • CoolScreens
  • ProWood
  • Metro Building Products
  • Compton Sales
  • MultiView
  • Southeastern Underdeck Systems
  • Decksouth
  • Simpson Strong Tie
  • YellaWood
  • Guardian Building Products
  • UltraLox

Without the support of all our sponsors, local chapter members and the help from NADRA HQ – the Beaudry’s, we could not have pulled off such a fun and well-attended event.

NADRA National Board Member, and active Atlanta member, Heath Bowman said, “The golf outing was great. A lot of us don’t get to see each other outside of chapter meetings. It’s fun to catch up in a different setting and have a good time with friends in the industry. It also helps create awareness. NADRA does a lot for the industry, and many of the guests who played, got a chance to see the benefits of being involved with a group like ours. Obviously, networking is a huge part of it, and all of us work hard to stand out in a very competitive industry. But even more important are the friendships beyond the word. At the end of the day, the work we do is to add enjoyment in the lives of the people we work for. Events like the golf outings are a great reminder that we can have fun while we work hard.”

We finished the evening with a wonderful southern style buffet and awards ceremony.

The blistering weather apparently helped the golf scores heat up. Two teams finished with a score of 55:

  • Team Trex
  • Team Outback

After a scorecard playoff, Team Outback was given the winners trophy with Team Trex as runners up.

  • On Hole # 3 the closest to the pin award was given to Lamar Lea of Decksouth – 20” from the hole
  • On Hole #15 the closest to the pin award was given to Blake Buckler of PMC – 42” from the hole
  • On Hole #18 the long drive award was given to Ty Nowell of Universal Forest Products   – 348 yds ( ouch! )

Several attendees told me that this golf outing was one of the best they have ever participated in; others (even the country club) could not believe that this was our first tournament.  I was so pleased to hear that the common opinion was that the event was ran extremely well and I’ve got to say, we could not have done that without the help of John Lea and Mike reasons of Decksouth. John, thanks for letting us attend your club. It was fun and I am looking forward to the next one!

See you all August 18th at the Ivy in Bulkhead meeting start at 6:00!

Fiberon announces Martin Weiss and his family as the winners of the first Deck Day Giveaway video contest.

The Weiss family will take home a $20,000 composite decking outdoor living space.

NEW LONDON, NORTH CAROLINA, July 29th, 2014—With tens of thousands of votes and social media shares, the Deck Day Giveaway video contest has officially come to a close. Martin Weiss submitted the winning entry.

With a video that highlights how he and his family enjoy their outdoor living space every day, Martin’s submission is both fun and meaningful. With quirky humor spliced with touching family moments, the winning video shines the spotlight on what Fiberon is all about—having fun and spending time with others.

When the contest officially kicked off, Fiberon asked submitters to answer a question with a video response. That question: “what is your favorite memory of your outdoor living space?”

For Martin Weiss and his family, the answer is “everything.” From gardening and father-and-son playtime to grill outs and dog tricks, the Weiss family truly gets the most out of their deck. As the video shows, all the hours the family spent on their outdoor living space resulted in wear-and-tear.

The Weiss family had a wood deck, and after a few years of making memories, the boards began to splinter, the nails began to pop out, and mold grew on the railings. Now that Martin Weiss will receive a new composite decking outdoor living space, his family can spend all the time they want out there without worrying about depreciation.

According to Edie Kello, Director of Marketing Communications for Fiberon, the Deck Day Giveaway video contest affirmed that the composite decking product gives families opportunities to spend time together in a beautiful space without having to worry about splinters and rotting, or having to stain or paint the deck and rails every year.

“It’s not about home improvement with [Fiberon]. Our composite decking gives families more time to enjoy outdoor living —whether that’s watching the dogs play in the backyard, going for a swim, or relaxing after a hard day at the office. These videos were a joy to watch, and we appreciate the time and creativity the contestants put in to making these videos. ”

Martin Weiss’ submission was declared the winner through user voting. Many homeowners spent time and energy putting together their videos, and the voting often shifted back and forth.

To watch all the videos, including the Martin Weiss submission, visit the official Deck Day page at www.deckday.fiberondecking.com.

NADRA Atlanta Chapter Meeting Re-Cap

April 2013

We tried something different with our second meeting of the year by hosting the first “Speed Dating with Deck Builders” event at the Ivy in Buckhead.  We had over 51 attendees at the meeting which included several first time visitors.  I want to thank the following Deck Builder members that agreed to be at the host tables:  David Tibbetts, Atlanta Decking, John Harper and Joel Harper with Leisure Time Decks, O.C. & Mary Kirk with Just Decks, Rick Goldstein and Chapin LaChance with the Mosaic Group, Mike Reasons and John Lea with DeckSouth, Frank Pologruto with Decks & More, John Paulin with Tailor Decks, Bryan Miller with OutBack Decks, and Steve Matrangos  & Craig Dickerson with DeckSource.

Thanks you all so much for giving your time and giving this new idea a chance.  We only have six meetings a year and this format opened up the opportunity for more of our great Vendors to get in front of the deck builder members.  I would also like to thank the following Vendor members who bought “dates” for the event:  Weyerhauser/ Cox, Tamko, Homeland Vinyl, Trex, Azek, Dixie Plywood, NyloBoard, MoistureShield, Fiberon and Universal Forest Products.   We could not have a chapter without the ongoing support of so many members and I want to thank each of you for giving your resources to this meeting and to the chapter.

We had an opportunity to take care of normal business and to discuss forming a local code committee made up of Rick Goldstein, Steve Matrangos and Craig Dickerson.  Rick and Steve both spoke to the formation of the committee and invited all members to contact them with ideas and specific topics they may want to cover.  We also spoke about the National initiative for Code’s and to remind everyone to fill out the survey that is online and to contact Glenn Mathewson with any information prior to his going to the ICC meeting.  We were also able to give away a number of door prizes to the contractor members because of donations from Tamko, Weyerhauser, Cox , Fiberon, Universal Forest Products, and Fortress.

Our next meeting will be held on June the 18th at the Ivey  in Buckhead.  Our sponsor for the meeting is Fastenmaster and we are currently looking for a guest speaker so please let me know if you have any ideas.   Thanks again for being a part of our Chapter and for all that each of you do to make us successful.

Respectfully Submitted ,

Keith Compton / Chapter President
