February NADRA Atlanta Chapter Meeting Re-Cap

NADRA Atlanta Chapter Meeting Re-Cap

February 2015

The year started off with a successful meeting this February despite power outages and ice storms in the area with the first Atlanta NADRA chapter meeting of 2015 on February 17th held at the Ivy in Buckhead.  There were 36 members and guests in attendance. Thank you Nyloboard and Joey Matthews for sponsoring this meeting!

During the meeting we caught up on the minutes from the last two meetings due to postponing minutes in December at our Christmas Dinner.  We were able to get an update from some exciting things going on at our National level from national board member Bobby Parks.  Time was spent discussing our upcoming chapter meeting schedule for the year and planning for our Deck for a Soldier project as well as our first annual Golf Tournament.  Joey Matthews will be chairing the build for Deck for a Soldier and is currently looking for an optimal candidate that we can serve.  Mike Reasons gave a brief overview of the details for the golf tournament on June 15th at Brookfield Country Club.  Currently we are looking for hole sponsors from vendors and companies who want to participate.  This will be our main fundraising effort for 2015.

Financial Progress as of 1/31/15:

  • Income: $0
  • Expenses: $600.20
  • Balance: $3104.79

A special thanks to Joey Matthews of Nyloboard for sponsoring this month’s meeting.  Joey gave an interesting presentation on the history of the company as well as what makes Nyloboard unique in the market of alternative decking.  He also reviewed the product line and its features and benefits.

Brian Pierce of Catalyst Wealth management gave a very practical presentation of some helpful financial tools.  He was able to speak to some key action items that each of us should be doing with our financial plans and ways to set our business and family up for success.  He also provided leave behind material and some takeaways to follow up on.

Our next meeting will be held on:

  • Tuesday – April the 21st at the Ivey  in Buckhead.
  • Our sponsor for the meeting is Tailorwood and our guest speaker will be from Houzz.

Respectfully Submitted,

James Gunning

Chapter President

Did you know NADRA has a theme song?

For those of you unable to make the trip to chicago – NADRA’s party at Howl at The Moon was a huge success. Members and guests piled in to recognize and honor our award winners for the National Deck Competition and the national Terry Award and Recognition awards.

Congratulations to Keith Compton for being recognized for his many years of dedication to NADRA and the Atlanta Chapter! Glenn Mathewson was the recipient of our 2013 Terry Award for his ongoing efforts in code.

Without the support of our Gold and Bronze sponsors events like this would not be possible. A special thank you to all those recognized: MoistureShield, Fiberon, Nyloboard, Wolmanized Outdoor Wood, TimberTech Azek, Wolf & Screw Products.

Before the night was over, Howl at The Moon entertainers surprised NADRA guests with a custom song just for NADRA. Check it out: Na-na-na-na NADRA!

NADRA Atlanta Chapter Meeting Recap

NADRA Atlanta Chapter Meeting Re-Cap

April 2013

We tried something different with our second meeting of the year by hosting the first “Speed Dating with Deck Builders” event at the Ivy in Buckhead.  We had over 51 attendees at the meeting which included several first time visitors.  I want to thank the following Deck Builder members that agreed to be at the host tables:  David Tibbetts, Atlanta Decking, John Harper and Joel Harper with Leisure Time Decks, O.C. & Mary Kirk with Just Decks, Rick Goldstein and Chapin LaChance with the Mosaic Group, Mike Reasons and John Lea with DeckSouth, Frank Pologruto with Decks & More, John Paulin with Tailor Decks, Bryan Miller with OutBack Decks, and Steve Matrangos  & Craig Dickerson with DeckSource.

Thanks you all so much for giving your time and giving this new idea a chance.  We only have six meetings a year and this format opened up the opportunity for more of our great Vendors to get in front of the deck builder members.  I would also like to thank the following Vendor members who bought “dates” for the event:  Weyerhauser/ Cox, Tamko, Homeland Vinyl, Trex, Azek, Dixie Plywood, NyloBoard, MoistureShield, Fiberon and Universal Forest Products.   We could not have a chapter without the ongoing support of so many members and I want to thank each of you for giving your resources to this meeting and to the chapter.

We had an opportunity to take care of normal business and to discuss forming a local code committee made up of Rick Goldstein, Steve Matrangos and Craig Dickerson.  Rick and Steve both spoke to the formation of the committee and invited all members to contact them with ideas and specific topics they may want to cover.  We also spoke about the National initiative for Code’s and to remind everyone to fill out the survey that is online and to contact Glenn Mathewson with any information prior to his going to the ICC meeting.  We were also able to give away a number of door prizes to the contractor members because of donations from Tamko, Weyerhauser, Cox , Fiberon, Universal Forest Products, and Fortress.

Our next meeting will be held on June the 18th at the Ivey  in Buckhead.  Our sponsor for the meeting is Fastenmaster and we are currently looking for a guest speaker so please let me know if you have any ideas.   Thanks again for being a part of our Chapter and for all that each of you do to make us successful.

Keith Compton / Chapter President

Research Report Confirms Code Compliance

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Research Report for NyloDeck® Confirms Building Code Compliance

Decking material span ratings underscore NyloDeck’s strength and performance traits

Covington, GA – November 19, 2012 – Building materials manufacturer NyloBoard, LLC, whose patented process uses recycled carpet fiber and VOC-free resins to create exceptionally strong, durable and eco-friendly products, announced it has received its Code Compliance Research Report (CCRR) 0183 from Architectural Testing, Inc. for NyloDeck®, its newest product.  NyloDeck is a unique composite decking and dock material that contains no wood or PVC. The product was recently introduced this fall at DeckExpo 2012, a national deck and railing industry event.

The CCRR confirms NyloDeck’s compliance with ICC-ES™ Acceptance Criteria, AC-174 and ASTM D 7032.  Receiving the CCRR demonstrates that NyloDeck has met the rigorous requirements set forth by the International Code Council (ICC), who ensures the safety and reliability of building products and provides safeguards for people at home, at school and in the workplace.  The report further documents compliance with the requirements of the 2012 International Building Code (IBC), 2012 International Residential Code (IRC), and the 2010 Florida Building Code (FBC) for deck span ratings.

“Successfully meeting code requirements and third-party testing validates our commitment to producing attractive, versatile NyloDeck boards that are deemed safe and will be reliable for years to come,” said Craig Jacks, vice president, Sales and Marketing at NyloBoard.

NyloDeck is rated for a uniform live load of 100 lbs./psf when installed on support framing spaced at up to 24 inches on center and 200 lbs./psf on framing spaced at up to 16 inches, making it one of the strongest deck products on the market.  The unique patented manufacturing process combining recycled carpet fiber with VOC-free resins has resulted in a product with superior strength and durability whose technology has been proven in the marine industry and other building applications for nearly a decade.

“Most decking materials are limited to framing at 16 inches per 100 pounds, whereas NyloDeck can be used for spans up to 24 inches, which is a testament to our commitment to innovation and superior performance,” said Stuart Dimery, national product manager, NyloBoard. “NyloDeck’s proven material properties – combined with its durability and natural wood appearance – are unmatched in today’s marketplace,” added Dimery.

These span ratings also allow for flexibility in design and reduced material costs as deck boards can be run at a 45° angle with 16 inch spacing, rather than 12 inches, which is the maximum for most competitors.  This is particularly important when considering the replacement of an existing deck.

“At NyloBoard, innovation is inherent in our culture. We continually work to advance our manufacturing technologies so that our products can look great, exceed market expectations and deliver peace of mind for both contractors and homeowners,” noted Jacks.

A full copy of the CCRR 0183 is available on NyloBoard’s Web site at www.Nyloboard.com.  As NyloDeck’s distribution/dealer network is being built, please direct inquiries to the sales team. Call 877-NYLO-909 (877-695-6909) or 770-385-6168 or visit online for more information.

NyloDeck’s superior strength and durability allows for greater flexibility in design with deck boards spanning 16” at a 45 degree angle.
