During the last Southeast regional meeting, Glenn Mathewson spoke about the code changes that have been proposed and what it could mean for our industry. At the Northeast regional meeting, Bruce Verblaauw discussed the same things. After these meetings, Decks by Kiefer, a NADRA Builder member from New Jersey, decided to challenge all other members to meet or beat his contribution of $500 to the code initiative.
All contributors will receive the official 2019 NADRA “Power of One” Ambassador logo for their marketing use & will receive a shoutout on the official fundraising page.
Special thank you to the following NADRA members for contributing:

Reminder to all handrail and guard manufacturers, in June 2017 ICC-ES approved significant revisions to AC273, Acceptance Criteria for Handrails and Guards. NADRA recommends if you have an evaluation or code report for your product in accordance with this acceptance criteria you should contact the agency providing the report on how these changes will affect you.
In addition, due to these changes in AC 273, your Code Committee is interested in your input for discussing possible similar updates to AC174.
If you have feedback and information on your positions please send into: info@nadra.org where it will be forwarded to the NADRA Code Committee.
Making NADRA top of mind as we head into 2018
As I sit here typing this, I’m looking out my window. Palm trees and Christmas lights. Gosh, I love Florida this time of year. Our short winter consists of a 68 degree high and 48 degree low cold front. My son is on the back deck screaming “GO AWAY COLD FRONT, GO AWAY! Mom, when will it be summer again?” Kid, you wouldn’t last a day up North. (shaking my head.)
For those of you that don’t know me, I’m Heather. My role with NADRA is everything marketing, communications, programs and events. We are a tight-knit group at NADRA Headquarters. Actually, we are family. Most of my family is located in Pennsylvania, just North of the Philadelphia area. I’m the lucky (or smart) one that lives on the West coast of Florida, in the beautiful, small town of Venice
This time of year is busy for all of you. Between your own family schedules, crazy tradeshow season, and year-end deadlines; it’s not easy getting your attention and planning ahead for 2018 with the Association.
The MOST important thing to us, is YOU. Regardless of our resources or staff size; we need your support, and we need you to take the time to connect with us. Please call us and spend 10 minutes sharing your latest projects, product line, or event. Allow us to walk you through the benefits that come with your membership. Let us show you the new media kit for 2018. I guarantee that a short conversation with someone at HQ, will give you a renewed sense of appreciation for your membership in NADRA.
NADRA is launching an Instagram account in early 2018… so keep your eyes open for that announcement coming soon.
Please keep us in mind as you head into 2018.
We have a rare & genuine care for all of our members. We want to see you grow your business. The best way we can help you, is to make sure you are utilizing all of the available benefits and sharing your news with the industry. Whether you launched a new product and have a press release to share, or you want to share an inspirational story about how you expanded your business from 1 crew to 3 crews and added two more trucks this year. Our members can learn from your achievements… and your mistakes. We all have the same goal here, and that’s helping families play outside… one deck at a time.
Our impromptu family Christmas photo was taken on Siesta Key Beach. We took the kids to the beach last weekend and just by happenstance, we came across this tree that someone anonymously put up on the very North end of the beach. How lucky are we?!
Mike Beaudry (aka Pops) came for a short visit last week. This is Pops and Wyatt (4) on Siesta Key Beach.
Margie (aka Momma Bear / Gran) came for a short visit last week. Charlie Anne (2) took her for a stroll on Siesta looking for shells.
If you’re ever in South West Florida, please reach out to me!
Last week we asked NADRA members to forward the industry brief to their contacts. This is a very small, but effective way to spread the word about NADRA, industry news and upcoming events. A special thank you to the WOLF Organization for passing on NADRA news to your contacts! WOLF continues to stand behind NADRA’s Power of One initiative in more ways than one. Here is a brief summary of what NADRA’s Power of One campaign means to WOLF and how it lays the foundation for fellow members to build upon.
WOLF provides contractors with a training manual where they now dedicate two full pages to NADRA’s message urging all industry professionals to get involved with their industry association. In addition to distributing NADRA’s message in their training manuals, most recently, WOLF invited NADRA’S EVP to join them in Virginia at a Certified WOLF Pro Event as a guest speaker. Michael Beaudry made himself available for the day to participate. Mr. Beaudry spoke to the contractors in attendance about the latest developments at the code hearings, Deck Safety Month ® and how to take advantage of the Check Your Deck ® Inspection Program.
If you are interested in the power of one campaign or would like to schedule a time for Michael Beaudry to speak at one of your events, call NADRA direct at: 215.649.4884 to learn how or send an email to Info@NADRA.org. It’s time to make a difference, it’s time for the Power of One!
