NADRA’s very first sporting clay event on June 29th in Coplay, PA did not disappoint! Although we are all slammed this time of year, we gathered together to blow off some steam with a little gun powder.  The gathering began with a few words from our main sponsors, Wolf Home Products and Sequoia Supply. This was followed with an inspiring rules and regulations overview from safety management. From pointers like, “don’t take selfies behind the line of fire” to “although it might be tempting, no shooting live game”. Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays did an outstanding job not only ensuring the safety of our group, but entertaining as well.

The course included 16 stations of side flying, sky high, jumping clay pigeons on 64 beautiful acres of an old quarry.  The course was challenging, yet fun and the camaraderie was immeasurable. Here’s what a our members had to say:

“The NADRA event at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clay’s was absolutely PHENOMENAL! What a great event, but even more so- what great attendees! Thank you NADRA for hosting something unforgettable- I cannot wait to go back next time!”

– New Member, Tayler Young, The Falcon Group

“It was a blast!  What’s better than driving around shooting guns! Wait.. Driving around shooting guns with old friends and making new ones! That’s even better. It was a great team building exercise for me and my guys and we got to share war stories about the day as well as talk about how business was rolling out this season in our NADRA region with some of the top talent in the country.  It was a great day all around. I want to thank everyone at NADRA HQ again for putting it together. Count us in for next year!”

– Builder member, Sean McAleer, DeckRemodelers.com, LLC

The day concluded with prizes for the top foursome and best shooter. Matt Breyer and Ryan Lebron, from Breyer Landscape and Construction, LLC, along with Allen Homan and Joe Dandria from Perma Column East, LLC took first place in highest scored foursome. Stan Hathorn from Royal Building Products took first place for overall highest shooter. Well done! The event was a great success and we look forward to doing it again.

Thanks to all who came out, as well as our sponsors: Wolf Home Products, Sequoia Supply, Trex Company, Inc, and Perma Column East, LLC!

Greetings industry associates, outdoor living enthusiasts:
Welcome to spring! Summer is around the corner and May is Deck Safety Month®

In the U.S. we celebrate Memorial Day and in Canada we celebrate Victoria Day. Both of these May holidays are the unofficial “start” of summer in North America and with that we spend more time out on our decks. Family get togethers, graduation parties and summer vacations are just a few examples of where we might be “on the deck.”

This is a great time to market your business and remind homeowners to “Check Your Deck®” to ensure its safety. How do we do this? NADRA rolls out a plethora of marketing materials for its members to use to promote deck safety awareness (like the 10-point consumer checklist & PR templates). What better opportunity to call up local news stations, send out press releases, or offer a promotion and get your community involved with a Check Your Deck® campaign.

At NADRA HQ, interviews are coming in left and right as columnists are talking about making outdoor living improvements to those backyard havens & making sure they are safe for family and friends. We at NADRA are doing our part by directing calls and inquiries to our membership directory, and have seen a spike in traffic in the first 9 days of May to the “Find a Builder” and “Find an Inspector” section of NADRA.org.

Market indicators continue to suggest we are positioned to have a busy year- here’s to a fun and safe outdoor living season. For my Canadian friends, that’s July. Just kidding. Have a great year!

Kindest regards,
Bob Lett

CHECK YOUR DECK® THIS MAY

BY WOLF HOME PRODUCTS | 05.01.2017

Wolf Home Products is proud to partner with NADRA, the North American Deck and Railing Association, this month to recognize Deck Safety Month® to promote outdoor living in a beautiful and safe environment.

For many, May marks the unofficial start to summer. This means it’s time to get outside to work in the garden and start cleaning up the deck for summer BBQs. In addition to having a clean deck, it’s important to make sure you have a safe deck. Wolf and NADRA recommend homeowners Check Your Deck® this May before kicking off summer activities.

There are an estimated 40 million residential and 10 million commercial decks in the United States, with 50% of them being more than 20 years old. To ensure the safety of your family and friends, it’s important for homeowners to check their decks on a yearly basis. Outdoor structures like decks are exposed to sun, rain, snow and extreme temperature changes over the years. The need to maintain and inspect them is critical for keeping decks strong and safe and helps to avoid possible collapses.

NADRA offers a 10-Point Consumer Safety Checklist, which is an efficient way to take a good look at the different parts of the deck, with an eye to what might need maintenance, repair or replacement. Below are 10 parts to examine when you Check Your Deck®:

  1. Split or decaying wood
  2. Flashing
  3. Loose or corroded fasteners
  4. Railings and banisters
  5. Stairs
  6. Cleaning and maintenance
  7. Grills, fire pits, chimneys, heaters, and candles
  8. Lighting and electrical
  9. Outdoor furniture and storage
  10. Surrounding trees

Homeowners should also consider a professional deck inspection. A professional inspector will thoroughly examine your deck, provide information on your deck’s capacity limits, identify any dangerous problem areas and give you some insight into what to keep your eye on in the future.

It’s important to remember that older decks require closer scrutiny and regular inspections. Many decks were built before code requirements were established to protect consumers. Some of these older decks may have deck-to-house attachments using only nails instead of the current recommended construction using deck tension hardware that greatly helps in the prevention of ledger failures.

Once you Check Your Deck® and ensure it’s safe, grab your friends and fire up that grill for your first BBQ of the summer!

Have you ever seen a leader who is on fire? A confident, charismatic, contagious and consistent winner? Well, this person probably has mastered the “C’s”. Here are a few of them!

Connection:

Great leaders realize that their success was not achieved purely based on their skill, efforts or great looks. The connection with like-minded partners, colleagues, friends and mentors all play a critical role in the development of a leader and their associated teams. However, the contrary is also true, so please be mindful. Surrounding yourself with those who may not have your best interest in mind, or who do not fit into your value system, could contribute to your demise in the long run. Start making appropriate, powerful connections today!

Confidence:

True confidence comes from failing forward and getting back in the game. It comes from hours and hours of preparation and practice in and on your craft. It hails from the acknowledgement of self-worth that you’re worthy of this opportunity and that you should be in this space at this appointed time. Confidence is knowing that you must bring your “A” game and that you are willing to put in the effort consistently to do so. We must be confident every day in our approach because the opportunity in front of us right now may never present itself again.

Credibility:

#1. Be the best at what you do. #2. Never stop at #1! Always be on time, on purpose, on budget and on point! Listen intently to your customer’s desires and do what you say you are going to do when you said you were going to do it. This sounds extremely simple on paper, but unfortunately most miss some very key elements in the delivery of service to their customers. If you or your work are not credible, no one will ever listen to you, take you seriously and hire you to fill a void – period!

Control:

Be careful what you post. Be careful who you host. Be careful what you like. Be careful what you say on mic. Be careful what you tweet. Be careful what you eat. Be careful what you say. Be careful how you spend your day.

Regain control, as there are many things that are designed to trip leaders up in today’s society.

Charisma:

Many leadership authors talk about gravitas. If you don’t know what it is, google it! People and organizations who have a magnetic approach will always leave a positive long-lasting impression on you. All leaders should research and practice the traits of a charismatic person (humility, maturity, bringing value and substance to those around you). This is what gets you the job, the promotion, the deal you wanted or simply the satisfaction that you have moved something forward in the right direction.

Don’t you clearly “C” now? Influence is necessary to lead. Make a difference by focusing on these “C’s” in the next few weeks. You’ll be glad you did!

Okay my friends, let’s cut to the chase!  The key to being resilient is to recognize that if we live long enough, we will eventually face change or adversity.  In addition, since we are all human, we understand that these state of affairs automatically trigger several types of emotions.  However, the secret sauce lies within how we handle these emotions ourselves and how we deal with the emotions of those around us when either change or adversity strikes.

Here’s a quick example.  Think back to when you first learned how to ride a bike.  The person who taught you took off your training wheels, held you on the bike steady for about a minute, gave you a pep talk and very specific instructions and then eventually provided you with a swift push to get you started.  At first, your excitement level went through the roof.  Your big smile indicated that you welcomed this new adventure.  Your confidence, passion and perseverance kicked in immediately.  You experienced immediate success by pedaling five times without issue and then the inevitable happened…  You fell!  Not only did you fall, but you fell really hard (because falling was never an issue with the training wheels attached).

At this point, your natural inclination was to immediately look around to see who experienced your fall.  But there was also another very important reason you were looking around to find this person.  You desperately wanted to know what their reaction was to your mishap.  Were they disappointed, upset, happy, proud, supportive, empathetic, etc.?  Whether you knew it or not, your reaction to the fall was 95% dictated by the first emotional response of someone around you.  If they overacted, so did you.  If they were laughing with you, you tended to laugh as well.

This is a very simple concept that leaders must understand and work diligently on today.  As we experience more and more change and adversity in our lives, we must train our minds to master resilience by conquering our emotional responses.  Similarly, with self-awareness, we must understand that the responses of others around us should not necessarily influence our mental toughness, positive outlook and resilience.

The goal for all of us is to go from certainty to hope as quickly and often as we can.  The secret to resiliency starts and ends with how we respond.

The goal of leadership is to realize that we are all human and that we have a responsibility to our tribe to take them on this same journey.  Work tirelessly to minimize the disruption time within your organizations, families and life. Oh, and by the way, this is a secret that you can share with everyone. Please do! Good luck on your personal journey my friends!

WOLF HOME PRODUCTS AND PRIMESOURCE EXPAND DECKING DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT

Wolf PVC decking will now be available in Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Indiana

IRVING, Texas  — Wolf Home Products today announced a new agreement with PrimeSource Building Products to expand the distribution of Wolf’s PVC decking to customers throughout the Midwest.

Per the new agreement,  PrimeSource will immediately expand distribution through its Chicago center, which services dealers in eastern Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and northern Indiana.  PrimeSource has been distributing Wolf decking through parts of the Midwest since August 2016 via its Minneapolis distribution center.

“Our partnership  with PrimeSource has been a successful one,” said Robert Lett Sr., Wolf Home Products’ Vice President of National Sales & Marketing.  “PrimeSource has shown itself to be a favored distributor in the Midwest, PVC decking is a favorable product, and Wolf has a unique, high-quality product with the supply to keep up with demand in this expanded area.”

Early in 2016, Wolf Home Products and PrimeSource conducted extensive research on the market and found a widespread acceptance of synthetic decking in the Midwest. Lett  spoke with numerous independent contractors and dealers in the areas serviced by PrimeSource. Through these conversations,  Lett discovered an overwhelmingly positive response to the Wolf-branded PVC decking products.

Wolf PVC Decking is strong and lightweight, featuring polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and an acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate (ASA) capstock for superior durability. It is available in the Tropical Hardwood and Seaside Collections and in eight colors.

“This partnership allows us to expand our offering contiguously, and in doing so, to better serve  our customers,” said Tim Schory, Regional VP /PrimeSource.

WOLF HOME PRODUCTS UNVEILS NEW LOGO,

REBRANDING EFFORT

Updated look highlights company’s independent streak and “forward-looking” spirit

(YORK, Pa.) — Wolf Home Products spent the past several years transforming itself into a platform for growth and innovation. Now, it has a new look to match.

Wolf Home Products unveiled its new logo recently — part of a wide-ranging rebranding effort that will amplify Wolf’s strengths in the marketplace as it refreshes the company’s most visible representation. Wolf Home Products delivers Wolf-branded lines and other high-quality cabinetry and building materials to more than 4,000 dealers.

The company’s new logo features a clean design, a dominant “W,” and its signature “howling wolf” silhouette — a symbol that dually represents Wolf’s independent streak and its commitment to independent building materials dealers.

Wolf President and CEO Craig Danielson said the new logo captures the company’s innovation and forward-looking spirit.  The rebranding will also continue to boost Wolf’s profile among contractors and homeowners, who have fueled the company’s recent growth.

“Wolf has successfully established itself as a leading supplier of American-made products available through independent dealers. Our Wolf-branded product lines have enabled us to rapidly expand our geographical footprint,” Danielson said. “This is the ideal time to introduce a new look-and-feel that represents the spirit of a company on the move.”

The rebranding effort is the company’s first in years and the most extensive in decades for a company with roots that stretch back to 1843. In the coming months, the rebranding effort will extend to Wolf product packaging, sales materials, a new company website, displays, and much more.

The company currently delivers a wide range of Wolf-branded lines, including decking, railing, kitchen cabinets, vanity tops, trim and moulding, and more. Wolf Home Products continuously seeks to expand and modify its product offerings to meet the needs of independent dealers and the contractors they serve.
